Latest Achievement: A Newly Developed Fabric for Effectively Killing SARS-COV-2

2021-1-28 Share:

The fabric treated with a new technology is found to kill 100% of SARS-C0V-2 under experimental conditions, and have a long-term high-efficiency protection upon application to health care products such as masks. Currently, masks, gloves and other products made of this fabric have been produced in mass. On the 27th, SQ Group published the latest scientific research achievement for epidemic prevention jointly developed with the Hong Kong Research Institute.

In the morning, the scientific and technological achievement appraisal meeting for the "technical development and application of VTS biopolysaccharide derivative antibacterial and antiviral fabrics of SQ Group" was held in Jinan, Shandong. After nearly three hours of research and discussion, the appraisal committee with Jiang Shicheng, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering as the chairman, and Sun Gang, director of the Heilongjiang Animal Disease Prevention and Control Center, and Guan Yuntao, a biosafety review expert of the National Health Commission, as the vice chairmen, approved this scientific and technological achievement, which is considered to fill the gaps in such technology at home and abroad, reach the international advanced level, and have extensive application value, and suggested promoting this achievement quickly and widely.

So far, this scientific research achievement has obtained antiviral test reports from National High Level Biosafety Laboratory for Animal Disease Control and Prevention of Harbin Veterinary Research Institute, CAAS, MICROBAC Laboratory of the United States, INTERTEK of the United Kingdom, VRS, the independent third party testing agency of the United Kingdom, Switzerland SGS, Guangdong Detection Center of Microbiology, and other agencies, antibacterial test reports from CNITA Testing Company, German HOHENSTEIN and other agencies, and other test reports, such as the national basic technical safety specifications for fabrics, and the patent has been applied.

The test results show that the SQ VTS antibacterial and antiviral fabric has obvious killing effect on 3 (namely, SARS-C0V-2, SARS-COV and 229E) of the 7 currently known coronaviruses that can infect humans. The test data of the national high-level biosafety laboratory confirms that the fabric can inactivate 100% of SARS-C0V-2 (HRB25 strain) after exposing to them for 60 minutes. The test data of VRS (Virology Research Services), an independent third-party testing agency in the United Kingdom, also proves that the number of SARS-C0V-2 reduces by 90% after 5 minutes of contact with the fabric; and by 99.99% after 120 minutes of contact with the fabric.

Fabrics treated by SQ VTS antiviral and antibacterial technology can kill the bacteria and viruses contacted for a long time, and stop the transmission. The test report shows that the antibacterial activity of the antiviral and antibacterial cotton cloth is still higher than 99% after the 30th washing. That is, relevant products can be worn repeatedly, rather than changed frequently.

SQ VTS antibacterial and antiviral fabric is the latest achievement jointly developed by SQ Group and Research Institute affiliated to Hong Kong government, and its antibacterial and antiviral principles are mainly "capture" and "kill". Reportedly, the biopolysaccharide derivative polymer layer of the fabric can actively adsorb bacteria and viruses in the capture range, and can kill bacteria and viruses through the biological activity.

The fabric is also applicable to gloves, isolation suits, hospital bed sheets, seat covers for public transportation, etc. Experts believe that for the prevention and control of group viruses under high population flows or high-risk conditions, it is of great application value to popularize and promote this achievement.
